The idea is simple: if you have a spare room, you could offer it to
someone who, in return, would provide you with 10 hours of support per
week, eg cooking, cleaning, taking you to your appointments or just
spending some time with you. This is Homeshare!
Take Doreen, a 78 year old lady from Heywood: after spending months in a
care home following a fall, all she wanted was to go home. Thanks to
PossAbilities Homeshare, she is now living with Anouck Truffaux, a
French Master student in Law, who came to England to practice her
English after graduating. Anouck helps Doreen with cooking,
house-cleaning, and they often go out together. Doreen is now much
happier, feels useful as she helps Anouck get around her new life in
England, and ‘feels much younger than when she was in the nursing home’!
