The evening, featuring the Manchester Community Choir, will include music from the Classical and contemporary repertoire as well as blues, show tunes, world music, and a few Christmas tunes for good cheer! All proceeds from the night will go to support the work of Freedom from Torture.

Despite the highly repressive nature of transatlantic slavery and forced migration, enslaved peoples managed to hold onto vital aspects of their West African culture, bringing them to the Caribbean; these cultural traditions are still visibly present in the region today.

Using objects from Manchester Museum’s Living Cultures' West African collection, images and film from the Caribbean, Isabelle Cox will explore cultural migration; looking at how and why certain traditions have continued to endure on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Sisters of Kinvara (play) - 1st & 2nd December at The Kings Arms, Salford

Written by Marie Greenhalgh, The Sisters of Kinvara is a poignant and irreverent look at family relationships and the secrets and lies families keep.  

Marie works with the elderly in Wythenshawe, where she founded a companion’s scheme for the oldest old of the community.  More than 150 elderly people access the services including lunch at a local pub and trips out.  Marie is also a writer and through her plays and stories does great work in bringing people together.  

Marie has gathered a team of actors to perform the play on 1st & 2nd December at The Kings Arms off Chapel Street, Salford - just a ten minute walk from Deansgate.  Tickets for the play are available online http://www.kingsarmssalford.com.

People First Volunteer Befriending Scheme - Hulme and Moss Side

We are recruiting volunteer befrienders for our scheme in Hulme and Moss Side. Our volunteers visit adults aged 55 years and over to help reduce loneliness and social isolation.
We provide a full training package, reasonable out of pocket expenses and support to find permanent employment or other volunteering opportunities.

Due to working with vulnerable adults we will ask you to complete a full DBS, which we will pay for. Previous experience is not required.

Volunteer Opportunity – Volunteer Handyperson

Care & Repair are on the lookout for a Volunteer Handyperson. Volunteers will complete tasks alongside our HandyHelp Safety Operatives. These include the fitting of safety equipment, minor plumbing jobs and joinery work.
