The British population is ageing. Today, about 10 million people living in the UK are aged 65+. This is expected to increase by 50% by 2050. As people are living longer and fewer people are being born the government is seeking to encourage people to remain work until later in life. However not everyone can or wants to continue working until much later in life. This event, organised by Dr Martin Hyde, will have speakers from a wide range of backgrounds who will each discuss the challenges and opportunities of extending working lives.

Can you help Salford Healthy Communities with a survey?
Salford Healthy Communities are carrying out a short survey for north Manchester residents. They are researching why some people complete bowel screening and why some people don’t take part.
The first 30 people (remember, from north Manchester) to complete will have their names put in a prize draw for the chance to win £30 (Morrison’s/Asda/Tesco) gift voucher. Surveys have to be completed by Friday 21st October.

Times announced for Olympic and Paralympic Parade in Manchester
Details of the national parade honouring our Team GB and Paralympic GB heroes can now be confirmed.
On Monday, 17 October, setting off from outside the Museum of Science and Industry, the parade will enter the Liverpool Road junction of Deansgate at 16:30, before completing a route through the city centre, ending in Albert Square.
The family-friendly event has been timed to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the celebration.
The parade is expected to last around one hour taking in the length of Deansgate, Huntsbank, Todd Street, Corporation Street, Exchange Square, Cross Street and finally Albert Square.
The parade will be followed by an event for the athletes in Albert Square from 17:30.
The parade and finale will also be broadcast live via big screen relay sites in the city centre, so that people can see as much of the athletes as possible
Cllr Sue Murphy, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said:
'This will be a family-friendly event and we want to make sure as many people as possible can get into the city centre, join the celebration and help cheer on our Olympic and Paralympic heroes.
'Manchester is home to some of the biggest names of the Games and it is an honour to host a national parade for Team GB and Paralympic GB. Make a note in your diary – we want to line the streets and fill Albert Square to give our athletes the celebration they deserve.'

The North City Nomads visit the Lake District
The North City Nomads had a fabulous time at their recent trip. Over 150 members of the group left north Manchester for a day out in the Lake District. Many took advantage of the group discount on the North Lakes Ferry Cruise, some ambled around Lake Windermere whilst others enjoyed a spot of shopping.
Some members wanted a 'good walk' and met in Bowness for a two mile hike to Windermere. The group enjoyed an alfresco coffee break before the onward journey to Ambleside. They then enjoyed a ferry cruise back to Windermere, with just enough time left for a glass of shandy with some fish and chips!
The group is managed and run by its members and offers up to four trips a year. Members are encouraged to share information about activities they enjoy and participate in, helping to build social connections and friendship circles.
North City Nomads now has over 550 members. New member requests are received on a regular basis, for more information please contact Tracey Annette on northcitynomads@gmail.com or 0161 234 4299.
