Interested in looking at Manchester in a different way?
The City Council is a partner in a European funded project that has developed a new Manchester City Centre Peace & Justice Trail. The Trail is available in a small booklet / website and it outlines some of the people, ideas, movements and organisations that have brought about some of the major social developments in Manchester's history.
Relive the events of Peterloo, the campaign for the vote, the abolition of slavery, the birth of trade unions and the co-operative movement and the struggle for a just and more tolerant city, country and world.
We are keen to get the views of people from all ages and the day will also include free refreshments and lunch. The seminars will be held on June 12th and 26th starting at 10am in the Town Hall. Full walks of the Trail will take place on the 13th and 27th June.

Age Friendly Tea Dance - Withington
On Thursday 4 June from 11 – 3pm, Southway Housing Trust will be holding an Age Friendly Tea Dance.
The Event will be held at St Christopher’s Church Hall, Moorgate Avenue, Withington, M20 1HE. On the day there will be live music, dancing, food, fun activities as well as housing/age friendly advice. The event is open to anyone over the age of 50 and is all free of charge.

Volunteer Drivers needed
Transport For Sick Children is a team of dedicated volunteer drivers who give up their time and use their own cars to make a difference to sick and needy children in Manchester. Our volunteers are keen to use their free time to help families with sick children, who often have complex health needs, get to crucial health and hospital appointments. Our volunteer drivers take the accompanied child, wait until treatment is finished and then take them home.. All children are referred to us by professional health workers. Fuel costs are reimbursed all fuel costs and a DBS check (formerly a Criminal Records Bureau check) is required to safeguard children. Are on the lookout for a Volunteer Handyperson opportunity? Manchester Care & Repair have vacancies for volunteers who will complete tasks alongside their HandyHelp Safety Operatives. These include the fitting of safety equipment, minor plumbing jobs and joinery work.
This role would suit someone who has DIY or trades skills and you must have your own car. All out-of-pocket expenses are fully reimbursed.

Ageing in Cities Seminar - Friday 26 June
'Ageing in Cities', a seminar co-hosted by the OECD and Manchester City Council, takes place on Friday 26 June 14.00 - 16.30 at Manchester Town Hall.
The OECD will present the findings of the recently published 'Ageing in Cities' report, which features Manchester as a case study. The report explores the particular challenges and opportunities of an ageing society for cities.

“Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which takes place between 1st and 7th of June 2015; to celebrate the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK”.

People First Volunteer Befriending Scheme
People First Volunteer Befriending Scheme is recruiting volunteer befrienders for Hulme and Moss Side. Volunteers visit adults aged 55 years and over to help reduce loneliness and social isolation.
A full training package is provided, together with reasonable out-of-pocket expenses and support to find permanent employment or other volunteering opportunities. Due to working with vulnerable adults they will ask you to complete a full DBS, which they will pay for. Previous experience is not required.
